Recent reports have suggested that Manchester United was closing on Ousmane Dembele after failing to secure a deal for their number 1 target, Jadon Sancho.
Barcelona, however, is disregarding all links to the possibility by denying any recent discussions with the English club. The Catalan side is expecting the Frenchman to stay put according to the club’s technical director, Ramon Planes.
Many reliable sources over this past week have reported the winger as close to a transfer window deadline deal. These rumours however now appear to be falsified.
Jadon Sancho has obviously been United’s top target this past year and the club is in continuous contact with Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund appears to be closing the door on any potential move.
As Manchester United have continued to be knocked back on their hunt for Sancho, they have had no option but to look for alternatives in order to bolster their attack and make an early impact on this seasons league campaign.
Dembele on the other hand has been considered more of an achievable target given that he has not played many minutes for Barcelona since his big money arrival. Continuous injuries have plagued his time in Spain.
Reports have told that the 24-year-old would be open to making a move to Old Trafford but Planes insists, no such deal will be on the cards this window.
Barcelona’s technical director told reporters when quizzed on the latest round of rumours.:
“Hes a player we count on, we know his potential. We hope this year the team sees the best of him.”
Dembele is now expected to remain in Barcelona where the young star has failed to recreate his spectacular form shown in the Bundesliga before making the €105m move in 2017.
At this point in time, it would seem that Manchester United will conitnue to look elsewhere as Barcelona look to maintain depth in attack.
The English club will need to act fast with the deadline day fast approaching.
