The new Blues goalkeeper sustained a thigh injury whilst representing his country last week.
Chelsea have given an update on new signing Edouard Mendy’s recent injury. The club remains hopeful that the Senegal international will not see extended minutes sidelined after pulling out of international duty.
The 28-year-old completed a move from Rennes last month and has proven to be money well spent. Mendy was brought in to replace the troublesome Kepa and managed to secure a clean sheet with an impressive performance on his Premier League debut.
Mendy has now returned to London and will be assessed by Chelsea’s medical team to determine the extent of the injury.
“The Senegalese Football Federation has announced the withdrawal from their squad of Edouard Mendy due to injury.”
“The goalkeeper sustained an injury to his right thigh during training on Wednesday and had a medical examination in a hospital in Rabat, where Senegal are due to play Morocco tonight.“
“Mendy has since returned to Chelsea where he will undergo further examinations.”
Have the injury be serious, this leaves Frank Lampard the choice of Kepa or Caballero in goal when Chelsea host Southampton on October 17. A potential selection headache that Mendy was brought in to solve.
Kepa has upset Chelsea’s manager once more with comments made after his recent clean sheet with Spain.
Chelsea will now wait anxiously in the hopes that Mendy is cleared to return to action this weekend.
