Lyon president, Jean-Michel Aulas, does not expect any club to meet the asking price required to attain Houssem Aouar before this summers transfer window concludes.
Speaking on the players’ future, Aulas reaffirmed that the chances of him leaving Lyon this summer are extremely slim, despite rumors.
The 22-year-old midfielder has caught the eye of European heavyweight clubs after impressing across all competitions for Lyon last season. The midfielders’ performances in Lyon’s UEFA Champions League run last campaign were world class.
A host of clubs have already been linked to Aouar, including PSG, Manchester City, and Chelsea. However, over the past few weeks, Arsenal has become heavy favorites for the young stars’ signature.
The Frenchman is currently valued at €60m by Lyon and the club is refusing to budge on this figure.
Lyon have stated that clubs are struggling with meeting the players current valuation during this time of financial turmoil. Lyon’s president, for some reason, mentioned Arsenal in particular when asked on Aouar’s future.
“Financially, Arsenal are like everyone else.”
“And Houssem Aouar could say to himself that the best thing would be to stay with us.”
Lyon captain Memphis Depay has also been linked with a move to Barcelona with an incredible career turnaround. Additionally, Moussa Dembele continues to attract interest from all across Europe.
“From the start, I said that we would not lose the three players announced every day in the newspapers,” Aulas added.
“Ten days before the end of the transfer window, none of the three have gone. And I don’t imagine that will happen. If one or two leaves they will be replaced.”
It is now up to Arsenal and other potential buyers to appropriately express their interest with the €60m required by Lyon with haste if Aouar is to depart in this window.
