Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Brazilian wing-back, Alex Telles, from Porto on a four-year deal.
Telles is only United’s second signing of the summer transfer window following the arrival of Donny Van de Beek from Ajax. The left-back has been on United’s radar for several years and the club is delighted to have finally captured their man.
Given the fact that United have struggled in defence over the past two seasons the need for defensive reinforcements could not be overstated. OSG’s men have already conceded 11 goals over the teams first 3 league games.
United fans will welcome his arrival after conceding 6 goals at the weekend.
Manchester United suffered a brutal 6-1 defeat at home to Tottenham at the weekend in a performance to forget. Alex Telles is expected to immediately replace the struggling Luke Shaw and make his impact felt.
The 27-year-old has cost United €18m and joins the Red Devils for the next four years with an option to have that extended to five. Telles could prove a bargain for United given his experience in Portugal. He is equally as skilled in defence as he is on the offensive end finishing his last campaign with Porto on 13 goals and 12 assists. One of the highest contributors to goals for a defender in Europe.
Telles will instantly challenge both Luke Shaw and Brandon Williams for the starting role at left-back and will increase the teams hunger to succeed. Again, he has already likely secured this position from the first game in which he is eligible to play.
Alex Telles told the clubs official website after completing the move:
“To join a club with the prestige of Manchester United is a huge honour. You have to work hard to get to this moment in your career and now I am coming to this club, I can promise that i will give everything in my heart to be a success here.”
“I won many trophies at FC Porto and I want to continue that at United. The manager has a clear plan and direction for this team and I can’t wait to put on the famous shirt.”
Alex Telles joins Edinson Cavani and more new signings which will be announced in the coming hours.
