In a recent interview 2018 Ballon d’Or winner Luca Modric, expressed his desire to remain at Real Madrid for the remainder of his career.
The Croatian has made clear that his intentions are to finish his illustrious career with the Spanish champions.
Modric has come a long way from making his memorable impact on the English Premier League with Tottenham to one of the all-time best footballers. And despite struggling in his first season with Los Blancos, the maestro has truly become a fan favorite and legend for both club and country.
In 2018, the midfielder made history by ending Ronaldo and Messi’s ten year reign over the Ballon d’Or. FIFA’s award for the best footballer of the season. He was also awarded as the player of the tournament for his efforts in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
In an interview with Cadena COPE, the 25-year-old spoke on his future.
“Of coarse i want to stay at Real Madrid, but it doesn’t depend on just me.”
“It depends on what the club wants and the coach as well.”
“I feel good and my desire would be to finish my career at Real Madrid if possible, although I don’t want to be a problem for Real Madrid or for the coach.”
It is obvious that although Modric would like to end his career with Madrid, his love for the club and its success is his sole priority. MARCA claims that it is likely that with one year left on his contract, Madrid will likely extend. It is also believed the Luca is willing to take a salary cut in order to stay.
It is reported that his long spell in Spain’s capital has his family well settled and almost unwilling to change environments anytime soon.
Real Madrid are notorious for their treatment of players nearing the end of their careers but given the impact he has had, perhaps the contract extension is more than likely.
